It is March and everyplace (besides Maine) is getting ready for spring!! Unfortunately Spring does not show up in Maine until May, but when it does come it is beautiful! This is why (after years of business) we do not open Bufflehead Cove Inn until the first week of May. May and the first couple weeks of June are a wonderful time in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport. Everyone is excited that they survived another Maine winter, they are busy planting gardens and painting buildings. It is a time of year when everything is fresh and alive. The tulips and daffodils are in full bloom, the apple, pear and cherry blossoms are lush and scented. Plus the town is quiet, with no rush of traffic so you are able to walk into most restaurants without reservations. To get you excited about Spring in the Kennebunks here are a few suggestions for things to do in May.
Pearl Kennebunk Beach is a new restaurant less than a mile from Bufflehead Cove Inn. It features an array of wonderful seafood from salt encrusted shrimp to fried oysters. Other options include seafood bouillabaisse or lobster roll with shoestring fries! The restaurant is light and airy with a huge fireplace and a clean modern decor. Well worth a visit.
Time to adventure!
May is a time to be outside and enjoy nature. I’d recommend exploring a few of our local preserves such as the Emmons Preserve in Kennebunkport or Laudholm Farms (Wells Reserve) in Wells. If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous I’d recommend a trip up to East Boothbay to visit the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. I promise you will not be disappointed.
As always you can contact us at Bufflehead Cove Inn for other tips or suggestions.
